Uncovering Muslim History
Positive and inspirational Muslim stories are often left out of the mainstream because of Islamophobia - I’m talking school curriculums, books, tv and films, and definitely media narratives. This affects how Muslims are perceived and treated by society. As part of Islamophobia Awareness Month, I led a talk and discussion around historical characters and events that reveal Muslim influence and impact on the west and at the world stage.
The Birth of Muslim Hip Hop
Mecca 2 Medina performed Hip Hop - channelling a fusion of socially conscious and Islamic themes addressing the challenges faced by Muslim and ethnic minorities in Britain e.g. socio-economic problems, inequality, youth violence and so on. They were a ground-breaking group and inspired people of all backgrounds.
