Dance Histories is my first book which explores Muslim dance cultures along the Silk Road through the lens of history, storytelling and personal accounts. 

Dance is a link to our historical past. All its varieties stitch together the stories of communities throughout time. The movements and music help us understand people, their landscapes and their spirituality. To deny it is to deny our very existence. 

The beauty of Muslim dance goes deeper than aesthetics alone. It unravels a rich tradition that is often ignored, distorted by Orientalism or denied. Looking at dance in Muslim cultures allows us to re-evaluate misconceptions and reveals a different side to these communities; a human side in which dance is used for self-expression, celebration and art, as well as spirituality.
