In conversation with Leila Aboulela

We had a fantastic evening in conversation with award-winning author, Leila Aboulela about her new book ‘River Spirit’

We spoke about the significance of the Mahdist War in Sudan in the late 1800s, the theme of colonialism and foreign rule, identity, modernisation and faith, strong female characters, injustice and oppression and so much more.

Leila’s stories resonate deeply, they are couched in spirituality, culture and faith - and are captivating. Her storytelling draws you so deep into the story that you feel like you are witnessing events in front of your eyes

River Spirit is out now to buy.

Thank you to The Yellow for hosting us and providing a warm and homely environment as always
